Update on the Dunsink Urban Area Plan
Community voices helped shape the final plan
Over four days councillors in Fingal County Council debated over 250 motions from the 19th - 22nd of October 2026. The amended Dunsink Urban Area Plan was adopted by councillors following four days of debate.
What has changed?
🌳 Preserving Scribblestown and Dunsinea Lanes
We secured changes to help protect these important historic lanes as the area develops.
🏡 Housing with the infrastructure to support it
We pushed for new homes to be delivered alongside the essential infrastructure communities need, including schools, improved bus services and the Luas.
🔭 Protecting Dunsink Observatory
We supported efforts to secure UNESCO World Heritage status for this unique and historic landmark, recognising its national and international significance.
🏘️ A wider choice of homes for families
We promoted a broader mix of housing types to create greater opportunities for family homes and support the delivery of housing that meets different needs.
Looking ahead
Dunsink has significant potential to provide much-needed housing and create a new community. However, development must be carefully planned, respect our heritage and deliver the infrastructure and services that residents need. If Fingal County Council feel that there has been material changes to the plan they will bring sections out for public consultation again. We will keep a close eye on this and post any updates on this website.
The current changes secured demonstrate the value of community engagement. Thank you to everyone who took the time to get involved and help shape the future of Dunsink.
New homes must go hand in hand with the infrastructure, services and protections that make a community a great place to live.
